Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) together with the Leiden University Office in Indonesia (LU) held a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) Signing Ceremony on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Universitas Negeri Malang. The signing of this MoA was an initial step to promote the mutual interests between UM and LU, especially on the organization of a joint lecture; Cleveringa Lecture 2022. The representatives of UM were the Rector of UM, Prof Dr. Hariyono; the Vice Rectors of UM; the Dean of Faculties at UM, and the director of OIA UM, Dr. Evi Eliyanah. Meanwhile, representing the Leiden University Office in Indonesia was Dr. Merrick Bellen, the Director of KITLV (Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies) in Jakarta.

The MoA signing ceremony was then followed by the Cleveringa Lecture, where Dr. Nurenzia Yannuar, an assistant professor at UM and Prof. Marian Klamer, a professor of Austronesian and Papuan Linguistics at LU went into an in-depth discussion on Multilingualism, Language Endangerment, and Language Vitality.
